Speaking to the Self: An Audio-First Journaling Platform for Private Emotional Processing

Abstract
Unsaid is a Journaling application built around voice that allows the user to record their inner emotions through audio without worrying about posting them and being judged publicly. Where modern social media applications allow users to connect externally with friends, Unsaid provides a safer space for them to freely speak out their inner most thoughts and reflect internally. In this research paper we will be exploring the theoretical aspects as well as the practical design of a platform called “Unsaid” which will be an anonymous Journaling application. This design will be developed based on expressive writing, digital self-disclosure and engagement design. Unlike existing text journaling apps, Unsaid would focus on voice reflection and automatic transcription along with AI generated summaries by sentiment analysis (BERT based summarization). A gamified Tree Garden metaphor visualizes consistency through leaves, small plants and trees to encourage sustained Journaling habits. Psychologist-informed questionnaires are proposed to evaluate emotional relief and user experience. A functional prototype and synthetic pilot data demonstrate the capability and show how emotional analytics can support self-awareness. The study suggests that a privacy-first, audio-centered, AI-assisted Journaling environment can promote reflective practice and emotional well-being without requiring public social interaction.
